The tree concerned is a mature ash tree located in the applicant's garden - See images 1-3. It is approximately 15-16m in height and has a spread of between approximately 15-20m, with the larger spread being on the east-west orientation. The tree partially overhangs a grassed communal area to the west of the applicant's property. It is acknowledged that the tree has communal amenity value due to its visibility form the surrounding properties on Worcester Close. Permission has been granted previously for the removal of several lower branches. It is proposed that the tree undergoes an overall crown reduction in height of no more than 2m and in width of between 4 and 6m, including reshaping and balancing. This will result in a finished height of approximately 13-14m, a finished north-south spread of approximately 13-14m and a finished east-west spread of approximately 14-15m. Image 2 shows an approximate line of the desired size. Cuts will be no more than 100mm in diameter. Work would be carried out during winter to reduce the risk of disease entering the tree. This is to reduce shading to the applicant's property, reduce crowding with adjacent trees and to prevent the tree from encroaching on the property roof whilst retaining the aesthetic appeal of the tree.

A. Damson (T1) - Fell. Tree is diseased (Phellinus Pomaceus - soft rot and white rot) and two substantial limbs have recently fallen to reveal evidence of soft/white rot as well as extensive brown rot in main trunk. Remaining limbs are either dead (no foliage), diseased (visible fungal growth and leaf blight), or split and crumbling and severely compromised. Further limb loss is imminent and poses a hazard to neighbours as tree is on border and overhangs neighbour's drive and children's play area. No plans to replace tree as other saplings and numerous shrubs occupy the same border.B. Pear (T2) - Fell. Crown and large parts of trunk are diseased, rotten - the tree is mostly dead. Fruit and leaves are blighted and shrivelled. Tree is at corner of plot and if it falls in an uncontrolled manner could cause injury and damage to pedestrians and stone wall on Hall lane, neighbour's patio and cars and adjacent healthy apple tree. No plans to replace as plenty of other trees and shrubs in area.C. Yew (T3 & T5) - Fell. T3 and T5 are poor specimens of low amenity value and stand either side of larger, more mature and shapely Yew (T4). Trees are too close together and growth at the interfaces is weak with loss of green growth and some dead and clashing branches. T3 is very close to overhead cables and all trees overhang footpath on Hall Road and deprive other tress and shrubs in same border of light. Plan is to remove T3 and T5 to allow T4 to rebalance and reshape.D. Yew (T4) Light Crown Reduction and lift. Central Yew is fine specimen, which is currently compromised by closely adjacent T3 and T5. T4 is approx. 10m high; plan to reduce height and girth by approx. 1-1.5 m and lift crown to avoid damage to adjacent stone wall and interference with pedestrians on Hall Lane.
